Parks Marina Winter Games events raise over $8,000 for area charities

Parks Marina, Inc. and The Barefoot Bar are pleased to announce that University of Okoboji Winter Games competitions held at Parks Marina properties raised over $8,000 for local charitable foundations including a total of $6,861 raised during the 7th Annual ‘Battle of the Bartenders’ fundraising event on January 24th.

            The 7th annual ‘Battle of the Bartenders’ event featuring 22 local pubs and restaurants, pits the area’s best mixologists against each other in head to head competition.  The top three participants with the most tips split the proceeds to be awarded to their charities of choice. First place received 50% of the proceeds and 2nd & 3rd place received 30% and 20% accordingly.  

“All of us at Parks Marina sincerely appreciate the effort and commitment of local businesses to compete for their favorite charities and all of our locals that came out on a cold night to support them,” says Debbie Parks, Marketing Manager at Parks Marina.  “We also thank Realty One Group in Spirit Lake for donating 2 round trip tickets to Las Vegas to our overall winners and The Three Sons for donating gift certificates in the amounts of $200, $100 & $50 to our top three contestants.”

             The Outback Lounge in Milford, IA repeated as champion from the 2018 competition and received a check of $3,430.50 for the Lane Frederick Foundation’s Campaign against Bullying. The Shed in Lakefield, MN placing 2nd received a check for $2,058.30 for the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester, Minnesota’s Building Fund. The Ritz in Arnolds Park received a check for $1,372.20 for the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa. Now in its 7th year, the Battle of the Bartenders has raised approximately $28,000 for local charities.

Other charities benefiting from this year’s Winter Games activities held at Parks Marina include the Courage League of Iowa receiving $480 from the Human Dog Sled Races and a match of $480 from Doll Distributing in Spencer, IA, Go Fund Me Page for “Lifting Matt Up” receiving $60 from the Ice Auger Races and the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue received $220 from the Keg Toss held at The Gardens. All totaled Parks Marina was proud to raise $8,101 for local charity.
