Parks Marina and Humane Society team up for charity poker run

OKOBOJI— Dust off your card skills, Parks Marina and the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa are teaming up for a charity poker run Saturday, June 27th. This event is open to everyone, with Parks Marina boat owners qualifying for special prizes.

Participants will be able to register and purchase hands that day at Parks Marina between 10 and 11 a.m., where they will enjoy free mimosas and a continental breakfast, raffle and prize entry, and a pet and play with the Humane Society featuring adoptable pets. Every hand is $30, and $20 for Parks boat customers, with 50% of the proceeds from each hand purchased going directly to the Humane Society, and 50% to the pot.

“This is a special event that we look forward to each and every year, this year being open to everyone in the area,” marketing director Debbie Parks said. “You get to have fun right here on campus, and help out a great organization while you’re here.”

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. participants will visit each stop on their provided map by boat or car and return to the Parks Campus to play poker from 3-4 p.m. All poker winners will be announced promptly following the end of the poker games, and the top 3 hands will pay - 50% back to the player and 50% to the Humane Society. Thanks to a generous donation from Barletta Boats, there will also be a last chance drawing where the winner will get $600. Participants are invited to enjoy live music at the Barefoot Bar following the event.

Through last year’s event, over $1,500 was raised in support of the Humane Society, and with an anticipated wider participation from the public, Parks is hoping this year will go even higher.
